“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.” – Albert Einstein. Great reminder to learn something new everyday!
On 13 January 2018, despite raining, Lynne and I volunteered at Spectra Rooftop Edible Learning Garden. We were lucky to meet a experienced gardener, Mrs Chong and a few passionate volunteers at the rooftop garden.
This was our first time doing volunteering work at the rooftop farm. As you can imagine, we were very thrilled when we saw the place which was full of a lot of beautiful edible vegetables, fruits and herbs. We were assigned to remove weed and prepare grow bed. These simple tasks were good exercises for us, the intensity was equivalent to cycling! Phewww…After spending 2.5 hours at the rooftop garden, we managed to complete all the tasks assigned to us. Besides that, this was a wonderful learning experience for us. We have learnt some useful garden tips such as composting method, pest management in terms of killing slugs and those nasty pests🙊, netting setup and use of rain water to wash away the dirt on rakes and trowels.
This edible farm is supported by by sustainable farming technology and passion for homegrown foods. It was amazing how people become self-sustainable in this small rooftop gardens. You can tell how fresh the vegetables are by the look and smell😋.
Farming, even with the help of technology, is not easy. Hats off to the all growers and volunteers who help to make each garden greener and nicer. Let’s say no to food wasting😀.
